U of I students lobby legislators at the Capitol
On Wednesday, March 2, Illinois Connection, the Advocacy Network of the University of Illinois Alumni Association, held its annual Student Day at the Capitol. Approximately 150 students from all three U of I campuses attended, urging the General Assembly to fund higher education.
The students’ lobbying coincided with votes in the House and Senate to override the governor’s veto of SB2043, which would have appropriated funds for MAP grants and some community colleges for FY 2016, capping a full day of higher education-related discussion at the statehouse. Check out photos from the day on the Illinois Connection Facebook page.
A follow-up day of action for alumni, U of I Day at the Capitol, will take place on May 18. Registration information is coming soon.
